The quartz countertop is so shiny that it reflects the overhead can lights. The light color is the side of the island for eating and is dining table height. The darker color is for cooking and is the usual countertop height.

wow! I really like what you have done. and yes I will eventually do my own "inspection"!!
I got several granite and laminate samples from the store. I studied them and decided what colors I liked and what kind of texture. I bought a 12x12 tile that was about the same color of my kitchen counter top and practiced on that first.
